Plus Size Model Fluvia Lacerda Takes The Brazilian Media By Storm

Sitting by the water, at one of the Financial Center’s restaurant’s in NYC wearing nothing but mascara, plus size model Fluvia Lacerda greeted me with the usual enthusiasm I’ve grown to know and love for the past five years. She’s a simple gal from a third world country who came to NYC in search of a better life. Coming at the very tender age of 17 and working many odd jobs, she knew she was in NYC for a reason and now nearly 13 years later the truth behind her journey is becoming clear.

Modeling itself is so superficial if you really think about it. You have to think you are pretty enough and have the confidence to pursue this career. You also have to be able to model and have a determining spirit to face the rejection; it’s such a cut throat industry.

For many this career they dream of never comes true and for some it comes as a stepping stone to the real purpose of life. Fluvia is not six feet tall and the perfect size twelve many agencies seek but at 5’9 wears a size 16/18. In most people’s minds,  she was too short, too big or too exotic for the plus size industry but today even those that did not give her the opportunity have to admit the “brand” that has become Fluvia Lacerda.

With the same determination that she embraced when she first step foot into NYC, she created a place for herself in the plus size modeling industry. While her fans love her exotic and edgy campaigns, Fluvia was able to book jobs with clients such as Catherines, Kmart and Fashion Bug and proved that her versatility was there.

After signing with Ford, I thought the quest was over. She was signed with a slew of reputable agencies in the U.S and abroad, she travels the world and works with the most amazing clients yet she was not done. Her next step was to reach out to the women she left behind in Brazil. Who are these women? The plus size women who live their days invisible, in a society plagued with superficial validity. Brazilian women are known for being exotic and the lengths they will go through to reach their view of ideal beauty is unimaginable. Yet Fluvia set her sights on the women of Brazil and has raised a one woman campaign against an entire industry.

For three weeks, this past May, Fluvia was interviewed by countless television stations, magazines and newspapers about her career as a model but most importantly about her views on true beauty and healthy living at her size. As you can imagine, the more her name was splashed across newspapers and magazine the more opposition she was faced with. The diet and plastic surgery industry as well as doctors and activist that believe that being “fat” is a death sentence, all tried to diminish the momentum Fluvia Lacerda has created all across South America.

Smiling and looking absolutely stunning, Fluvia makes no apologies for her curves and continued her message of healthy living and self confidence through the mass media. Below I have listed the video’s of just a few of her television appearances for your viewing pleaseure.
