Plus size singer Adele’s weight became an issue with Karl Lagerfeld when he was quoted this week as saying that she has “a beautiful face and a divine voice”, but, she’s “a little too fat.”
The Metro World News Reached out to Marie Denee; PLUS Model Magazine Fashion and Style Editor, plus size blogger The Curvy Fashionista, and author of the ebook , “Keeping it Curvy. Confident.Chic.” for reaction on Karl Lagerfeld’s statement. In an article published yesterday, Marie is quoted as saying, ” He’s no stranger to disdain and contempt for plus size women. By saying that she can sing but she’s fat minimized who this woman (Adele) is. She is so much more than just her weight.” She hits the nail on the head because what does Adele’s weight have anything to do with her beauty and talent?
Karl Lagerfeld responded exclusively to the same paper, Metro International in an article entitled, “Karl Lagerfeld Addresses the Adele Fury.” He said the statement was taken out of context and he is Adele’s biggest admirer. While it is not uncommon for the press to take statements out of context, why was the comment made in the first place? One has nothing to do with the other and Karl of all people should know how harsh comments on weight can feel (he has lost over 30 kg). Karl even goes so far as to say, “I know how it feels when the press is mean to you in regards to your appearance.” As the old saying goes, “if you don’t have anything nice to say….”
