As we reported last week, Kelly Osbourne has announced that her dream of launching a plus size clothing line has come true and she is currently in the planning stages.
Kelly is in New York this week doing the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week rounds. Backstage before Zac Posen’s show on Sunday, she spoke with New York Magazine’s The Cut and gave more details on her upcoming plus size fashion clothing line.
She told The Cut that the line’s launch is still some time away, perhaps a year or so. She is currently working out marketing details and pricing. And plus size fashionistas, get this… Kelly does not plan to set higher prices for larger sizes. People.com spoke to Kelly last Friday after she hosted the American Express livestream of the Rebecca Minkoff show.
Kelly told People.com:
“First thing I want to make very clear: I’m not just doing a plus-size line. I’m doing a line for every girl that goes past a size 10. In my research, I’ve found that the prices go up after size 10 and that really hurts my heart — it’s not fair! So with my line, the size 2 will be the same price as the size 24. Yes, there’s more fabric and yes, it costs more to make, but it will be the same price for every girl that wants to wear it, end of story.”
She also told People.com that her tops will be made to accommodate larger busts, which is something she can relate to. And crop tops, a favorite of Kelly’s, will be a part of her collection.
Kelly plans to have her clothing line start at a size 0 and go up into plus sizes because she feels strongly that there should be no size exclusion when it comes to great fashion.
“They will go from a size 0 into the plus sizes. This isn’t plus size; this is everything. I am putting elastic in everything, so it gives.” (The Cut)
Her inspiration to design plus sizes surprisingly came from a moment when Kelly tried on a friend’s maternity clothes.
Kelly told The Cut:
“It was like having Spanx in your jeans! So I figured, why can’t you rework everything to hold you in like a bandage dress does, but is not necessarily a bandage dress? So where will one purchase these newfangled bandage jeans? This is the exciting part that you guys will have to see when it comes out, and half the reason why it’s taking a little bit longer.”
We were excited before but now, we definitely cannot wait to see what Kelly’s new plus size clothing line will offer the plus size fashion world. I personally love that Kelly, despite losing weight, has not forgotten how it felt to be plus size. She knows the issues plus size women face when looking for fashionable clothing and has not forgotten that now that she is thinner.
