Murder, She Wrote, one of the most successful TV shows in history, is making a comeback to TV with Academy Award-winning actress Octavia Spencer as the lead.

Hollywood Reporter confirms that NBC has given the green light for a pilot to be made, which has Desperate Housewives producers Alexandra Cunningham and David Janollari on board. Cunningham, who has written for the shows Prime Suspect and Deception, will also write the script in addition to being executive producer.

The reboot will have Octavia playing a hospital administrator/amateur detective who self-publishes her first mystery novel. According to Hollywood Reporter, Octavia’s character is fascinated with true crimes, which leads her to become an active part of the investigations of current cases that are shown in the media.

If the pilot becomes a series, this will be Octavia’s first regular role on TV. Congrats to Octavia on landing this huge role!
