Plus Size Entertainment News: Melissa McCarthy Graces The Cover of Elle And Is Set To Produce A New Comedy For FOX

We reported last week that actress Melissa McCarthy was set to take on a new movie role as a spy. (You can find that article here.) On the heels of that awesome news, we have now learned that Melissa is going to produce a comedy sitcom for FOX.

17th Annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards - Arrivals

Melissa McCarthy and husband Ben Falcone (photo credit: VH1) reports that Melissa, her husband actor-writer Ben Falcone and actor Larry Dorf have sold a comedy project to FOX. The comedy is untitled at the moment but will focus on two mismatched guys who become stepbrothers when their parents get married. It is being called an “odd couple” type of comedy sitcom. Melissa and her husband will be executive producers. We are sure this sitcom is going to be a hilarious must-see. As soon as more information becomes available, we will definitely report more on this latest project of Melissa’s.

Melissa also graces the cover of Elle Magazine‘s November issue, which is dedicated to celebrating women in Hollywood. Melissa’s cover is one of four covers; the other three covers will feature actresses Reese Witherspoon, Penelope Cruz and Shailene Woodley. Daily Mail UK reports that Elle chose these four actresses because of the extraordinary contributions they have each made to the movie industry over the past year.

Melissa is wearing a Marina Rinaldi coat and skirt and a Calvin Klein cowl-neck top (which is not visible on the cover). Here’s her cover:

We want to know what you think of Melissa’s outfit on this cover. Yes or no?

Editor’s note:  We have seen this before where there is a plus size celebrity in a fashion magazine being “covered” up or given ill fitting clothing to wear as if the stylist didn’t know how to dress a plus size/curvy body. Remember Gabourey Sibide in that Karl Lagerfeld ‘Singular Beauties’ spread in Harper’s Bazaar a few months ago? (You can find that report here.) While we are always happy to see a plus size celebrity featured front and center in a fashion magazine, we continue to be disappointed at what they are given to wear. Marina Rinaldi has beautiful pieces and this coat is no exception. However, the coat is obviously too big for Melissa and could have been more fitted with a belt. They gave her such a dramatic look with her hair and makeup, only to put a baggy coat over her to finish the look.

What do you think? Please leave us a comment below and let us know your thoughts.

Holy cow, could they have Photo Shopped and covered Melissa up any more? If I hadn’t read your article first, I wouldn’t have recognized her. Perhaps she’s in the oversized trench coat because of her upcoming spy role but that slimmed down face isn’t just makeup and shading.

My first comment in the head was… What did happen to her hair!
Then I just admired the blue Rinaldi´s coat. Is that 100% wool? Mmmhhh very exspensive!
I agree with Emily about the spy trench coat.
Further I see a picture about a sexy, very beautiful, plus sized spy.
This is the scond year with a plus sized actress on the cover of Elle’s november issue, dedicated to Hollywood women, isn’t it. I believe Octavia Spencer was on the cover last year!

i think she looks beautiful, but i agree with the fact that she’s too covered up. i love the fact that plus size clothes have finally “grown” up and melissa should have been put in something from maybe kiyonna or igigi, there’s so much out there now, why put a beautiful bag on her. i really think that stylists need to go back to “school” and start learning how to dress plus sizes. we’re not living in the old days where mumus were the only thing available to us. we are beautiful and have many portraits to that fact hanging in the most prestigious’ museums in the world. let’s get back to celebrating who we are and not what we look like.

I would have recognized her, but the Photoshopping is obvious — almost as bad as America Ferrera’s Glamour magazine cover a few years back – it was plain to everyone who had ever seen her in films, TV, etc. that the body on the cover was not hers.
So, although Elle is just making over Melissa McCarthy with clothing and computing, because that is what they “do”, and I really didn’t expect them to do anything else – it is sad that they can’t show off her curves and her lovely, round cheeks and that amazing sparkle in her eyes and consider that beautiful.

I think this is great but I think the coat is too much! This is the problem covering her up is not good, but showing more of her would have been best. She is a beautiful woman and there are other classy, sexy, and sophisticated outfits that she could have worn, I think this is unfair to her as an actress and woman. She doesn’t need to show off everything but come on guys! I think more of a better approach to showing her off in a more better way is believable. Why show her face but cover everything else up! she looks like she has a turtle neck sweater on and its not fair!
