Plus Size Fashion News: Lane Bryant Announces Their First-Ever Designer Collaboration with Isabel And Ruben Toledo To Launch Capsule Collection
Lane Bryant announced that they will be partnering up with high end fashion designer couple Isabel and Ruben Toledo where the designers will design a capsule collection for Lane Bryant, set to launch in stores this holiday season.
According to Women’s Wear Daily, the capsule collection will start off with a novelty tee and tote bag, with the entire collection having a full launch in Spring 2014. The capsule collection will consist of ready-to-wear clothing, outerwear and accessories. Women’s Wear Daily reports that there are even plans for a fashion show next season to give the capsule collection more exposure to the fashion world.
The New York-based fashion designer couple have only done two previous forays into the mass market: a swimwear line for Target to celebrate the opening of the retailer’s Harlem store and a shoe line for Payless that Isabel designed solo. So this is the first time they are designing for the plus size mass market and with Lane Bryant being one of the largest plus size retailers in the country, this is definitely a big deal in the plus size fashion world.
With Isabel being the one responsible for First Lady Michelle Obama’s 2009 inauguration outfit (see image below) and the duo’s work showing that they know how to design for a woman’s body while adding some glitz and glam, we are certain that this capsule collection is going to be FABULOUS!
Between Eden Miller showing her plus size line Cabiria at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week, Tadashi Shoji launching his plus size eveningwear collection online, Kelly Osbourne creating her own plus size fashion line and now this Lane Bryant/Isabel and Ruben Toledo collaboration, we are seeing a shift in plus size fashion which is greatly needed. Curvy women want to be fashionable too! I guess someone was listening to Tim Gunn, after all.
The capsule collection will be available in 500 stores nationwide plus online.
