Spanish retailer Mango, known for their trendy, urban affordable fashion for women, announced yesterday that they will be launching a new plus size brand in January 2014. The brand, Violeta, will offer clothing in European sizes 40 through 52, which translates to U.S. sizes 8 through 20.
The company, which is primarily based in Spain and has the majority of its retail stores in Madrid and Istanbul, Turkey, will offer the new plus size collection online and in almost 100 retail stores throughout Europe, Turkey and Russia. The new Violeta collection will go on sale online on January 15 and will start to be available in stores on January 17 with the collection being offered in more retail stores by late 2014.
The tagline for the new Violeta brand is “It suits me and I like it” and according to Mango, the new line will consist of modern, high-quality fashion clothing that will be effortless and feminine. The collection will kick off with 400 pieces, which leads us to believe that Mango is confident that this new brand will be popular. Mango has carefully chosen a team of 40 experts dedicated to ensuring that the design of the Violeta line will cater to the plus size customer. Mango plans to add new items to the collection monthly.
This all sounds amazing. Unfortunately, for those of us in the US, this new collection will not be available to us just yet. We emphasize the word ‘YET’ because if this line does well overseas, we are confident and very hopeful that it will expand and make its way stateside. And we hope this will inspire other retailers to follow suit.
