Celebrating Mia Amber Davis Yard 7/25/1975 – 5/10/2011

Mia Amber main imageOn May 10, 2011, Mia Amber Davis Yard passed away from complications of a blood clot in her lungs following knee surgery. Mia was best-known for her work with Ashley Stewart, Monif C, being the face of Jill Scott’s Butterfly Bra, a cameo in the movie “Road Trip” and serving as Creative Editor-at-Large for PLUS Model Magazine.

The plus size industry still misses her contributions and passion. Her smile and laughter would light up a room and she faced her challenges with vigor. As a statuesque size 18 model, many doors were closed to her, due to the industry’s refusal to work with models her size. However, Mia pressed on and won people over with her charm and undeniable beauty. She became a role model to many women who admired her self confidence and was often approached by women to whom she brought words of encouragement to across the country.

Fashion and modeling were part of who she was, but who she TRULY was lives inside of all who knew her. She lived to be a better person every day and do good things for others. If we were to take anything from the life Mia led, it would be for us to be kind and respect one another, live each day with confidence and never give up on your dreams.

Mia_Amber_Davis-Yrad_TributeMia was survived by her husband Mike Yard, her mother Ida Davis, family and friends.
