Are you an aspiring plus size model? Would you like to know more about how to break into the plus modeling world? Then this Modeling 101 feature is for you!

Every week, I will be answering a modeling question on the blog that are asked often by readers and aspiring models. This is a great opportunity to learn more about breaking into the business and gaining tips and honest input on how to proceed in deciding if plus modeling is the career for you.

This week’s question is…

Q: As an aspiring model, I’m often asked to do fashion shows for free. Should I be doing local shows for free?

A: Aspiring models that are not signed usually do free local shows and television segments for the exposure. As you become more familiar with the industry, you should choose opportunities based on how well they are connected in the industry. If you are doing shows and not getting anything from it, then what is the point?

Before deciding, find out if the plus industry is supporting the show, and if there will be press and/or bloggers in attendance. If the networking opportunities and exposure are worth it, then do it. Eventually you will have to decide when you go from free to paid opportunities.
