Last June, plus size fashion retailer Lane Bryant announced that they would be collaborating with ready-to-wear designer and Project Runway winner Christian Siriano.
Many of us waited patiently to see how fabulous this collaboration would be and now that time is here. The new collection from Christian Siriano for Lane Bryant will be hitting stores and lanebryant.com on Thursday, April 28!!!
The retailer announced today via People StyleWatch that Siriano has tapped actress Danielle Brooks (Orange is the New Black, The Color Purple on Broadway) to be the face of the new collection.
Siriano told People StyleWatch what his goal was when creating this collection for Lane Bryant:
“I wanted it to be a lot of color. We took a lot of inspiration from 1950’s ice cream parlors. I wanted there to be a lot of prints and stripes and textures, but still feel modern, with a little vintage feeling as well. I think the clothes are really great, wearable, fun and fresh, and that’s what we wanted to see.”
The new collection includes dresses and separates and will be available in sizes 14 to 28.
Brooks is very excited to be the face of the new campaign. She has worn Siriano’s designs before and told People StyleWatch:
“Being plus-size, it’s very easy to put a woman in black or navy dress but to get to show color on my chocolate skin is really fun for me, and it’s not an option that always comes around.
And for plus-size women to feel confident in what they’re wearing, Christian hits it on the nail with that. I really appreciate a designer of his stature saying ‘I’m going to design for every woman.’ There is such a huge market. The plus-size industry is huge.”
The size 14 actress also spoke to the magazine about her feelings on the term ‘plus size’:
“Right now, I’m embracing it and learning to love my size where I am, and not be ashamed of being plus-size. What is there to be ashamed of? I’m sexy. I’m fine. It’s just a number that we’ve given it. I wear a size 14. That number, I could change it to 0, it won’t matter. I’m embracing where I am and trying to stay fit and healthy in the midst of that.”
We’re very excited about this collaboration and can’t wait to see it all on April 28th. Kudos to Siriano for choosing a woman of color, who is also plus size, to be the face of the new collection. During a time where many plus models are under a size 14, this is a breath of fresh air and further proof that style knows no size or color.
