4 Reasons Why 2016 Was Such An Incredible Year For Men of Size

2016 was a phenomenal year for men of size.

More fashion, more representation and most of all, more diversity.

Here’s some of our favorite moments in 2016 for plus size men:

When Wilfork graced one of the covers in the ESPN body issue this year, it truly sent the message that athletes come in all shapes and sizes. It was inspiring to see ESPN embrace body diversity and make a positive statement via its cover and issue.

Plus Size Men’s Fashion

This year, many brands emerged on the scene, dedicated to big and tall/plus male/brawn fashion. Men of size have been largely ignored when it comes to fashion so this year was major in that respect.

Brandon Kyle Coates, former creative director for plus size women’s fashion brand Monif C., launched his own contemporary fashion line for men of size in mid-September. Another designer fashion line that launched for men of size is Volare. The brand and its designer Troy Adkins aims to be the “Balmain for big men,” launching during NYFW as well and also having a show at Philadelphia Fashion Week.

With clothing subscription boxes becoming more popular, such as Gwynnie Bee and Dia & Co, plus size men weren’t ignored this year in that department either. The Maximus Box, a style box for men of size, launched this year, offering curated fashion boxes tailored to each customer and the comfort of trying on new clothing at home.

More Plus Male Models

From Zach Miko being the first model signed to IMG Models new men’s plus size division called “Brawn” in March to Bridge Models launching their own plus size men’s division in May, it has been a great year for plus size male models.

The Emergence of Plus Male Bloggers

Bloggers were not to be left out this year either! We saw the emergence of plus size male bloggers on the scene, showing us that they can dress just as well as their plus size female counterparts.
