The 40+ Blogger Series: Georgette of Grown and Curvy Woman

If you’re 40 or older, you have had a front seat to the evolution of plus size fashion in the last few decades.

When I hear 20-something year-olds complain about how limited plus size fashion is, I always tell them, “You have no idea. What’s available now is leaps and bounds from where we used to be.” Add being over a size 24 to that and you really know the struggle that we had to endure in the 70’s and 80’s.

With that said, we thought it would be interesting as well as insightful to spotlight 12 plus size fashion bloggers over 40 in a weekly series, chatting with them about their style, favorite trends and how their fashion choices have evolved over the years.

We kick off this 40+ Blogger Series with the beautiful and inspiring Georgette of Grown and Curvy Woman.15878147_10154452340193271_1961239499_o

How would you describe your style right now in one sentence? Classic

What were your favorite brands and trends when you were in your 20’s?

Unfortunately in my 20’s, the only brand available to plus size women was Lane Bryant. Sometimes I could fit into some items from Lerner’s NY or Spiegel (straight size brands) but not that often.15840928_10154452337658271_1349109569_n

What are your favorite brands and trends now?

Eloquii is absolutely my favorite plus size retailer. Simply Be, Loft and Lane Bryant are favorites also. I love that former trends such as midi skirts, motorcycle jackets and loafers have turned into wardrobe mainstays.

How has your style changed over the years? Did your body image affect the way you dressed?

My style has definitely changed as I’ve become more confident about myself. For years, I was the “good big girl” and followed every “fashion rule” that has been crammed down our throats. I thought by dressing “appropriately” for my size, I could deflect attention away from myself.

Now, honestly I could care less about the opinions of others. Once you realize that 99.99% of the time folks are not even thinking about you, the fear of being judged evaporates. Besides it’s not my problem if they have an issue with my outfit.15824424_10154452338773271_2083842941_o

What advice would you offer your younger self when it comes to fashion and body positivity?

As long as you feel good, you look good!

What trends are you happy to see return this fall and winter?

I’m glad off the shoulder tops transitioned into Fall/Winter. I totally fell in love with them over the summer. I love the return of metallic pleated skirts.

Who are some of your style inspirations in the blogger world?

The Jenesaisquoi, Atlantic Pacific, Suburban Faux Pas, That Hayet Rida & Girl With Curvesimg_0049-683x1024

What trends are you looking forward to this spring?

Bold stripes, shades of yellow and the classic trench coat.

What are your plans for the blog in 2017?

My plans for this year are to incorporate more lifestyle and travel elements into the blog.
