Plus Models, How Do You Take Your Plus Modeling Career to the Next Level?

Plus Models, How Do You Take Your Plus Modeling Career to the Next Level? If you are a model who has already worked in your local area and have been shooting, how do you take your career to the next level?

Here are some questions to ask yourself:

  • Are you in a major city or close to one? If you are not, your pictures must be exceptional in order for an agency to sign you. You will only be able to obtain work through “Direct Booking”, which means the client will not have the opportunity to see you at an open call or casting. Are your images on the same level as other signed models?
  • Do clients ask you to come in to test with them? The answer is yes! Before a client books you for an entire day of work they may ask you to come in to test you. You will come in, be given clothing and asked to model the clothing in front of the client. Based on this performance, you may or may not work with this client. This is why it’s so important to know HOW to model. It’s not just about taking a pretty picture.
  • Have I been networking? Sometimes you have to be where the action is on order to be seen. Have you submitted to Model Searches, attended open calls or castings or attended fashion shows? Even if you are not part of a fashion show, being in the audience and attending networking events is all you need to be seen by the right people.
  • Have you chosen an appropriate path in the modeling industry? The business of modeling is just that, business. Brands and designers are looking for models that can sell their clothing to other plus size women. Maybe you are a commercial model trying to be a fashion model? Revisit the criteria for all the types of modeling to be sure you are doing those things to help nurture your future as a model.
