There’s something major happening at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week (NYFW) this September and we are so excited about it! Designer Eden Miller will be showing her clothing line Cabiria on the runway. The reason why this is so major is because Eden’s line is the first-ever plus size line to grace the NYFW runways. Yes, you read right. And it is certainly about time!
Eden’s Cabiria line was chosen by the Fashion Law Institute to be a part of its showcase during the Spring 2014 runways. She is one of six designers chosen for the showcase; the other five include four straight size designers and one accessories designer. It turns out that her clothing line being plus size had no bearing on why she was chosen.
Eden told Fashionista.com:
“It just happened to be that they liked my stuff. It didn’t matter that I’m doing plus. But it turns out that I’m the first plus [line to show at fashion week]! I’m incredibly excited and so stoked about it, but there’s also a lot of pressure.”
In the past, Eden has publicly expressed her frustrations with plus size fashion and how changes need to be made to what’s currently offered to the plus size woman looking for fashionable clothing. And now she gets to show her vision and help make some of those changes happen. With Tim Gunn also voicing his disgust at the state of plus size fashion, as we reported this week, this is one more win for the plus size fashion community.
Eden’s goal is to provide high-end, high-quality clothing for plus size women and she will get to show the fashion world just that on September 6th. The Cabiria runway show is the first show of that day, right before the Project Runway show.
As Eden said recently on the Cabiria blog,
“Cabiria is the first plus designer to EVER be invited to show at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Shows. Ever. This is such a huge milestone for legitimizing plus fashion, and incredibly exciting for me personally.”
A huge milestone indeed! Congratulations to Eden Miller on this great achievement and we can’t wait to see Cabiria on the runway next week.
