Last week, the Today Show held a weeklong “Love Your Selfie” series on their show, to take a deeper look at our body image obsessions and promote self-love and positive body image. The series included segments such as hosts going barefaced on camera on “No Makeup Monday”, sending a picture of themselves to Cosmopolitan Magazine to be photoshopped in order to show how unrealistic images in the media can be and hosts revealing their weights on-air to show that the number of your weight doesn’t define you.
The Today show ended their weeklong series on Friday, February 28 with a “Catwalk of Confidence” runway show that featured singer/actress Jordin Sparks and plus size models Chasity Saunders and Hayley Hasselhoff.
The ladies were there to promote positive plus size images within the fashion industry and discuss body image and being healthy. Chasity also teamed up with Today’s Style Editor Bobbie Thomas to kick off her “Loving What’s Under The Dress” campaign.
Our favorite part of the segment was when host Hoda Kotb asked Chasity:
“How does it feel to be modeling your bra and spanx on live TV?”
“For me, I’m a professional plus size model and I think that it’s incredible to represent the 65% of women in America that are a size 16 or larger. I’m a PROUD plus size model and it feels great.”
At a time where some plus size models are now denouncing the term and wanting it to go away, it’s refreshing to hear Chasity to give her positive take on the term “plus size”.
