Curvy Couture Roadshow was held in Melbourne on Sunday, March 30th, to the roaring crowd of the ever-growing plus size fashion community in Australia, otherwise known as “Aussie Curves”. Showcasing fashion for women sized 14+ with designers coming from all over Australia to partake in the first large scale runway and market event, Curvy Couture Roadshow was a huge success from both a brand and consumer point of view.
With market stalls filled with designer clothing fresh off the runway, sales, custom couture options from vintage, modern and bridal styles, there was plenty on offer to suit all tastes. Diamond sponsors Bella Model Management and Robyn Lawley Swimwear really showed how much they back the plus size fashion industry and community, helping to bring the event to the next level.
A few starlets added some sparkle to the event with Casey Donovan MC’ing the entire day as well as performing her new song “Big, Beautiful & Sexy”. Plus model superstar Laura Wells of BGM Models took to the catwalk like a panther, really raising the bar and showing us how it was done. Hayley Hasselhoffwas front row soaking up the Australian plus size fashion, a fresh experience for the newly signed Bella Model Management beauty who equally adored the modern and vintage designs.
The production team did an amazing job of pulling together an event of this size with volunteers going above and beyond. Hiccups occurred and there were a few, but that’s to be expected with an event like this and not one of them took away from the atmosphere and energy of the shows. There was too much shopping to be had and too many sweet treats like custom order creme brûlée and freshly spun cotton candy, as well as the gourmet burgers.
Bloggers traveled in from far and wide and it was brilliant to have so many inspiring women under the same roof. The outfits were sensational, unique, colorful, on-trend and mesmerizing. You can see more in the April issue of Plus Model Magazine. It wasn’t just the bloggers bringing their A-game, lots of lovely ladies rocked their individual looks, here’s what one attendee had to say about the event, which I think sums it up perfectly:
“Seeing women who looked like me for the first time ever on the runway, being in a room full of women who were wearing whatever the hell they wanted and looking fabulous. Having my eyes opened to just how many amazing labels and designers there are in Australia and realizing that I have a lot more opportunity to be fashionable than I ever thought possible, being inspired to take more risks with my clothing.” – Nicole Krause
Social media coverage of the event was crazy with #CurvyCoutureRoadshow and #AussieCurves blowing up Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. No doubt Pinterest will soon be flooded with images as the bloggers in attendance start to share their posts. The response from women across Australia was incredible; they couldn’t get enough which will no doubt fuel production for next year’s highly anticipated event.
