City Chic, an Australian plus size fashion retailer offering up to a size 24, recently starting offering their brand in select Nordstrom stores in the US and on Nordstrom.com. We were hopeful this was the beginning of City Chic making its move to US soil via Nordstrom. But we certainly were not prepared for the news we recently saw on their website… City Chic is now opening actual stores in the US!
From the looks of the store listing on their website, City Chic will begin opening stores this summer on the West Coast in select areas in California, with the first store opening in Westfield Culver City Mall in Culver City, CA on August 1.
We’re hoping this means City Chic will branch out across the US and find its way to major cities like New York, Chicago, Miami, Houston, Philadelphia, Washington DC and more.
This is great news considering that quite a few retailers such as Avenue, Old Navy and Ashley Stewart have either been closing many of their stores or removing plus sizes completely from their stores and offering them solely online. Shopping online for the plus size women is trial and error most of the time since sizing is so inconsistent across the board. Let’s not forget that we all have different body types so being able to try on a garment is key. It’s so much easier to walk in a store, see items up close and try things on before purchasing.
This is a major step in the right direction and we look forward to seeing what else City Chic has planned for their US invasion.
