Choosing the right foundation is one of the toughest challenges in the beauty world.
I know it can seem nearly impossible to choose the right shade and brand but I’ve got a few tips to help you through the struggle.
- Identify the type of skin you have: Dry, Combination or Oily
- Pick the formula based on your skin type and skin concerns. For example most foundations these days will combat large pores, fine lines or hyper-pigmentation.
- Pick a Winter and Summer shade (they can be the same brand or two different kinds) so you can color match your shade as the year progresses and the sun disappears (and you become more pale).
- Don’t be afraid to mix different formulations and brands together. If you like the mattifying of one foundation and the coverage of a different brand, go ahead and mix a small amount on the back of your hand before application (this is a top trick of most makeup artists).
- No matter how oily your skin is, MOISTURIZE beforehand. A moisturized skin base (especially for those with dry skin) will keep the foundation from sticking to the rough patches and oily skin will over produce sebum if it’s too dry, making your face too shiny!
- Identify if you’re a cool, warm or neutral skin tone. Have questions? Ask one of the sales associates to identify your base. This will help you find the right shade.
- Make sure to only use a freshly cleaned foundation brush or beauty sponge to apply foundation. Oftentimes a foundation can make you “break out” because of the tools your using, not because the foundation is bad for you.
