How Lane Bryant Made Our Style Shine During NYFW

With the Curvy Con happening during New York Fashion Week, it was a crucial time for us to figure out that dreaded dilemma that all fashionistas have… What do I wear?

And Lane Bryant came to our style rescue!

Editor-in-Chief Maddy Jones and I are both 40-something year-old women on the go who like effortless styles with an edge. I’m more into streetwear mixed with feminine details and Maddy has a more polished luxe look with an edge.

We both love color and I tend to gravitate towards sparkly things, leather and mixing prints while Maddy loves lace, leather, flowy styles, florals and maxi dresses. We both like to infuse a little sexiness in whatever we wear because while we may be over 40, sexiness isn’t dictated by age.

Maddy wears bold colors like turquoise and red that look so well against her skin tone. She also knows how to wear black in a way that’s not boring and looks very chic.

I’m a sneaker girl and wear them with almost everything. I also love jackets and layering pieces that don’t hide my body but instead elevates my look.

Lane Bryant is a plus size apparel retailer we both shop often because they offer us both great options in style and size. Maddy is a size 18/20 and I’m a size 26/28 so to be able to shop in the same store and both find things we love is an amazing feat.

Day #1 of NYFW and the Curvy Con:

We both kicked off this day with the Project Runway finale show where Maddy opted for black separates, which pulled together into a look that had people turning their heads and asking her where her look was from.

This Dot Mesh Mock-Neck Top was such a hit that we saw someone wearing it the next day at the Curvy Con! Mesh tops are on-trend this fall and it’s a great way to show some skin without overdoing it. Maddy wore a bodysuit underneath (another hot trend this year) and a faux leather skirt. As you can see, her belt pulls the look together. Adding a wide belt is the perfect touch to accentuating your waist and finishing off a look.

Maddy says: “I wanted to wear something that was worthy of such a monumental time in the plus size fashion industry. Lane Bryant has alway been at the forefront of fashion for our bodies so I knew I could find something amazing. I chose the same see-thru polka dot top seen in their recent campaign but added a bodysuit underneath to give it a little sophistication. The faux leather skirt has great movement so I added a belt to give me some waist definition.”

I love exposed zippers and a fit & flare silhouette because I have an hourglass shape and love showing off my waist. This 3/4 Sleeve Textured Fit & Flare Dress with Zipper Detail was perfect. It was comfortable, effortless and paired well with my silver Pumas. I’m wearing a size 26/28 in this dress.

This dress is perfect for the office as is or can be worn in an edgy look with a leather moto jacket and boots. I personally would pair it with a bold red leather jacket for a pop of color.

Day #2 of the Curvy Con + after party:

I wanted to wear something bold, that would stand out, which is so me. I also love cutouts and shoulder details. So when I saw this Strappy Shoulder Fit & Flare Dress, I knew this was it. Fit & flare to the rescue again!

My waist is cinched in; my bust looks amazing and there’s room for my hips. The fabric feels like a ponte knit and is so soft. Everyone kept asking me what designer I was wearing and were shocked when I said “Lane Bryant“.

I’m wearing a size 28 in this dress. And my old faithful silver Pumas matched well with this dress too!

Day #4 of NYFW – The Torrid Runway Show:

Maddy loves a power suit and she looks fabulous in this one that she wore to the Torrid NYFW show on Tuesday, 9/12. It’s so easy to create your own power suit. Maddy created hers with Lane Bryant’s Ponte Blazer in black and their Allie Pant in black. She gave it a playful streetwear vibe with her own graphic tee.

Maddy says: “A pantsuit is always a good idea when the fit is right. I’ve worn this suit to weddings, to business meetings and now to fashion week. The tailoring of the jacket truly makes this outfit come to life. It gave my body shape while looking like a bossbabe.”

Lane Bryant is always our go-to when dressing not only for events but our everyday busy lives. We’re fans of their swimwear, their bras, even their shoes. I have extra wide flat feet and their shoes always fit me well.

So thank you LB for making our style shine during NYFW and the Curvy Con! We look forward to seeing what other looks we can create for future events from the latest at Lane Bryant.
