Why you should attend: In its third year, this annual two-day conference brings bloggers, entrepreneurs, industry powerhouses and plus size women under the same space with a powerful theme of support, healing and empowerment to advance the success of all women. Those from the plus size industry share their knowledge via panels and keynote speaking sessions, while also giving attendees an opportunity to meet and greet those individuals as well as shop plus size brands and designers. This year, the event is introducing a new component, titled “The POWERTeen Experience”, a safe space for youth, ages 13-18, designed to build confidence and ability through interactive activities and workshops.
Why you should attend: In its sixth year, this annual awards event honors women who are doing extraordinary work in a variety of fields including media, entertainment, public relations and local government. The brainchild of influencer, writer and feminist Maui Bigelow of PHAT Girl Fresh, this event sets out to also provide a fun atmosphere that incorporates fashion, empowerment and diversity. There’s a fashion show, shopping opportunities, an all-white mixer and overall, an amazing experience for all. This year, big & tall men are also being honored with Michael Moss of Big Man Culture as the first PHAT Boy Fresh Honoree.
Why you should attend: This boutique conference aims to help women define and create their own version of success. Attendees can learn from and connect with exceptional women such as authors, leaders, entrepreneurs, bosses, moms, sisters, and all around incredible people who are relatable, authentic, approachable and also #GOALS. There’s cocktails, food and treats available all day, amazing swag, and even better insights from incredible women both on the stage and around the snack table.
Why you should attend: One of the largest events for plus size women and big & tall men in Puerto Rico, this expo offers a fashion show, informative and inspirational panels, keynote speakers and an opportunity to shop local boutiques and international brands/retailers. What we love the most about this event is that it’s FREE and it’s a family affair. Mothers come with their daughters and their grandmothers, shopping together and being empowered together.
They also hold a model casting call where all sizes are welcomed.
Why you should attend: JIBRI is a high end ready-to-wear brand that many plus size fashionistas know and love. The brand is celebrating its 10 year anniversary this year with a fashion show and special exhibit of fashion and art installations. Atlanta-based designer Jasmine Elder is known for creating glamorous, chic and modern garments that expresses a plus size woman’s unique, signature style. What sets her designs apart from other designers is that Elder is not afraid to shy away from exaggerated silhouettes while using luxe fabrics.
The exhibit will feature a collection of rare JIBRI garments from past collections, imagery, a gallery of art in various mediums that correlate to Elder’s designs and a tribute to the amazing fashion photographer, Marlene Lillian.
