How to Have a Winning Mindset

“Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass…it’s about learning how to dance in the rain.” – William Shakespeare

I just recently spoke at the 2019 No Barriers Summit in Lake Tahoe, and I had a BLAST!

My talk was focused on mindset and purpose…

…Two very important concepts that people never spend enough time focusing on. During my talk, I revealed the keys to have a winning mindset, and I wanted to bring the conversation to the Plus Model Magazine community. Let’s get it started!

1) Intention

Intention is everything. Jim Carey said it, so it must be true! If you don’t set the intentions for your life, career, relationships, etc. you risk dealing with experiences and outcomes that you don’t want for yourself. If you want to have a winning mindset, you first must set the intention to do so.

2) Clarity

After you have set the intention to have a winning mindset, you need to be clear on the following matters:

  • Are you clear on your goals?
  • What is your role in your own success?
  • What are “obstacles” or “challenges” standing in your way?
  • How are you standing in your own way?
  • What are the next steps to pursue your goals?

3) Purpose

The purpose behind your goals is the “why” of what you are doing. The “why” is incredibly important. Your “why” gives you grounding, and it will help you stay focused on the good and the bad days. If you aren’t committed to why you want your dream, is it likely to come true? Probably not. Finding your why will ensure that you maintain a winning mindset.

4) Eliminate Negativity

Negativity is EVERYWHERE. It is inside your own head. You will experience it at work. You will feel it amongst friends and family. You can’t escape it online or on social media, but there is a solution! You must be extremely selective in who you spend time with, what you consume, and the environments that you expose yourself to. Negativity exists and is very much contagious. If you don’t want to get caught up with it and distract yourself from your goals, then excuse yourself and move far away from it.

5) Create a Regiment of Success

Like happiness, success is something that is a journey that requires time, energy, and heart. Each of us have specific activities and hacks to make us more productive, focused, and successful. If you don’t engage in these daily activities, then you aren’t working towards being successful, every day. Figure out your daily hacks of success and execute them repeatedly.

6) Tools of Success

It’s simple. It is 2019 and it is INEXCUSABLE to say, “I don’t know”, “I don’t know how to get started” or “I didn’t know who to ask for help.” If you have access to the internet, you can find the answers to your questions. If you aren’t hungry enough to answer your own questions, why are you even pursuing your goal? The Google machine will lead you down the yellow brick road of information you need. Use it and arrive at your destination.

7) Strategy for Overcoming Obstacles

Bad days can feel like the worst. Sometimes they can even make us question if we want to move forward with our goals. Don’t get deterred by your insecurities and that inner bully who won’t shut up. If you have a dream, you owe it to yourself to make it come true. The best way to deal with obstacles is to do the following:

  • Identify the obstacle
  • Understand why you are dealing with the obstacle
  • Create a solution (every problem has a solution)
  • Use resources or people (if needed) to overcome the obstacle
  • Acknowledge the victory of overcoming this obstacle

If you can utilize strategy with the obstacle you are dealing with, it will feel a lot less traumatic and much easier to tackle.

8) Leverage the Power of Networking

Networking is a game changer and a life saver. As a human being you are not only connected to the universe, BUT you are a part of community of over 7 billion people. If you are pursuing a goal, I am sure there are thousands or millions of people that can be of use to you in some way or form. Networking is how you can tap into communities to grow your business, spread awareness, or build a platform. Don’t feel like you are alone. You never are. It is up to you to network and expand the people in your life who can support and champion you.

9) Bring Your Tribe Along

When making changes in your life, it is much easier to stay committed to the journey if your loved ones don’t stand in your way. They might not agree with your decision, but they shouldn’t be an obstacle that you need to conquer. When creating your winning mindset, make sure the folks surrounding you are interested in being winners in their own life. If they are not, it is time to upgrade the people around you.

10) Document the Process

When we watch videos of people achieving their goals, we are moved on the inside. No matter how small or large the victory, it is still a victory. We owe it to ourselves and the world to showcase the process of winning and failing. This allows people to support you on your journey, while receiving the motivation to keep moving towards their own goals.
