American Eagle Expands Their Denim Size Range to 24

And it’s the brand’s first time offering that size range.

Welcome to the land of plus sizes, American Eagle. We’ve been waiting for you.

A year ago, the brand launched their AEJeans Made For You, True You Sizing campaign, which aimed to intersect the worlds of fashion, music, and youth culture by highlighting how real customers express themselves in AE’s Ne(X)t Level jeans.

The campaign included size-18 model Maxey Greene, which was a pretty big deal for the brand. (Greene is to the right of the middle model)

At the time, American Eagle had expanded their women’s denim sizes to 20 on short, regular and long lengths. Extra short and extra long stopped at size 14. For men, they expanded to a size 44 waist and 36 inseam.

AE seems to truly want to offer more sizes and also show more diversity in the models they use on their website and in-store ads. We love how they show four different sized models on their Curvy Jeans landing page and how their jeans look on their bodies.

I wrote back then that I hoped they would expand their sizing. While I wished for up to a size 28, which I knew was a long shot, my calls (and others) for expansion were still heard.

Starting July 23, American Eagle will offer 12 new styles in sizes 00-24.

The announcement made its rounds on Monday, 7/15, with many calling this a major deal as this is a first for the brand.

The men were not left out of this size expansion either. AE is also extending their denim sizing to 48.

Chad Kessler, Global Brand President of American Eagle said:

“We felt strongly that everyone should be able to find a pair of jeans at American Eagle stores. We’ve heard that a lot of women don’t even go to the mall anymore because they can only find their fit online. That’s not the experience we want to offer our customers.”

FULL STOP. We have to note here that while this expansion is major for mainstream fashion expanding its sizes to include plus size women, up to size 24 does not represent EVERYONE.

Plus sizes do not stop at a size 24.

We hope AE takes note of this and continues to expand to truly accommodate every body. We do applaud AE for making an effort to expand sizing, especially in-store.

Other things to note about the size expansion and upgraded collection:

  • All of the jeans in the Curvy Jean line will be available in 5 lengths, 5 rises, and 6 degrees of stretch.
  • The expanded sizes will be offered both in-store nationwide and online.
  • There will be new washes and distressed detailing on some styles.
  • Prices for the Curvy Jeans line currently range from $49.95 to $69.95. No word as to whether those prices will go higher. But AE tends to have sales so you can still shop the new denim line on a budget.

What do you think of American Eagle expanding their jeans line up to size 24? Will you shop the new jeans collection?
