It’s Women’s History Month: Here’s 10 Women Making a Difference In The Plus Size Community

#8: Velvet d’Amour – plus size photographer and former model

d’Amour is simply an icon. Starting out as a successful size-26 model who most notably walked the runway in Jean-Paul Gaultier’s 2007 Spring/Summer prêt-à-porter show in Paris in October 2006 that earned her a feature in Vogue France, she has become a renowned photographer that owns Vol·Up·2 Magazine.

She creates art with every single person who shoots and is a sought-after photographer for that very reason. d’Amour uses her photography as a way to showcase ALL bodies and show their beauty. Her work sets out to defy those beauty standard stereotypes that society has pushed upon us.

It’s as if her photography is a form of activism and it not only showcases the model’s beauty, strength and power but empowers others to see themselves in a more positive light. And she uses her magazine as an outlet to promote diversity on all fronts.
