Wellness & Movement is for ALL Bodies – PowerPlus Wellness

What happens when two PASSIONATE WOMEN come together for ONE purpose? MAGIC!

This is how Maddy Jones, editor of PLUS Model Magazine and co-host of PowerPlus Wellness describes her collaboration with Fitness Instructor Jessie Diaz (IG @curveswithmoves).

With nothing but their willingness to do the work, they embarked on a mission to find spaces where the plus-size community would be welcomed and would align with their message of inclusivity.

“Our mission starts with creating a safe space for plus bodies to move without toxic gym culture. We vet every space we work with by taking the class, talking with studios, and ensuring size-inclusive equipment.” – Jessie

Within ONE year, PowerPlus Wellness offered 46 events which included Aqua Cycling, Aerial Yoga, Belly Dancing, Strength Classes with personal trainers Curvy Chick Fitness, and Morit Summers of Form Fitness. To celebrate Maddy & Jessie along with Lane Bryant (sponsor) hosted a fun & exciting Aqua Zumba Class at Complete Body (midtown) where instructor Edmee Cherdieu D’Alexis had everyone in attendance dancing and moving to the beat!

What can we expect from this dynamic duo in the year to come?

“We will be offering a self-defense class in the fall, we are also exploring adding a “nature walk” and continuing to offer events that sell out fast.” – Maddy

After speaking with some of the attendees at the celebration dinner it was clear that events and brands such as PPW are needed in a big way in order to create a different narrative around wellness and what fitness looks like.

“At Power Plus Wellness, we see movement and fitness as self-care with the community. Instead of the stereotypical idea of fitness being for solely weight loss/gain, we strip away that idea and bring fitness back to its original intention, to maintain or improve our mind, body, and overall well-being. We don’t burn calories, we burn toxic thoughts with joyful movement.” – Jessie
