I talk about my journey a lot… but let me tell you THIS IS ONE no one ever saw coming, not even me.
I’ve been very blessed to meet some remarkable women in my lifetime that have poured into me and have taken me under their wings like my business partner Valery Amador, FFF Week’s Gwen DeVoe, and several others that professionally saw something in me before I even knew it.
I remember it like it was yesterday, I was at Full Figured Fashion Week and if you can remember those days, the itinerary was packed with events, and this one particular day I was walking through the media tables and entered a giveaway by dropping my card in a bucket. I mean who would ever turn down designer clothing? lol
Well, that’s how I met Marla Wynne. It was her giveaway I entered and legitimately won. Within a few weeks, I was in her NYC apartment chatting about fashion, getting down to my skivvies, and trying on all her samples.
Over the years we worked together on several projects and while I was exposing her to the plus size market she was teaching me about designing clothing, television marketing, and branding. There was no set date, no formal contract… it was two women from completely different walks of life coming together and following a path we knew we wanted to be on.
This past August I launched everydayJones by Madeline Jones on HSN! This day became possible the day I entered the giveaway, the times we collaborated together, every time she brought me to HSN as her special guest and the many Saturdays we spent on Zoom learning and sharing…
At any given point this could have turned out another way because there was no way for us to truly know where this would go.
The lesson for me in all of this is to always follow your heart.
While many others would have not seen the BIG PICTURE or had the patience to see where this alliance would lead… I led with my heart and my passion to reach as many people as I could with my message of loving the skin you’re in. My success story has never been one where I could take all the credit, it has been my collaboration with other amazing women that have brought me to where I am today.
I hope that if given the opportunity you will also embrace the journey even if it takes many years to see the end before a new chapter begins.
