CHARLESTON FASHION WEEK® NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR 2013
EMERGING DESIGNER COMPETITION
BE AMONG THE RANKS OF DESIGNERS WHO JUMP-START THEIR CAREERS AT CFW
(AUGUST 29, 2012) CHARLESTON, SC – Charleston Fashion Week® (CFW) is now accepting applications for 2013’s Emerging Designer Competition: East (EDC:E), to be held March 19-23. Throughout CFW’s seven-year history, in conjunction with the EDC:E, it has grown to be one of the nation’s premier fashion events and is widely considered a roadmap to career success in fashion.
Former Charleston Fashion Week®/EDC:E competitors and their collections have progressed to:
- Mercedes-Benz NY Fashion Week
- Women’s Wear Daily, VOGUE, Teen VOGUE, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, ELLE, SHAPE, Marie Claire, and New York magazines
- ELLE.com, DailyCandy.com, and Stylesight.com
- Project Runway, E! News, and Fashion Star
- BARNEY’S New York, Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, Etsy, W Hotel Group, and ShopBop.com
CFW’s aspiring designers gain exposure and insights from top industry leaders in addition to producing a professional runway show. In recent years, CFW’s Fashion Panel judges and guests have included ELLE magazine’s Anne Slowey and New York Fashion Week creator Fern Mallis, along with Chris Benz, Cynthia Rowley, Janie Bryant, Cameron Silver, Derek Blasberg, Vanessa Lachey, K. Cooper Ray, and Mychael Knight, among others.
Fern Mallis, the founder of New York Fashion Week, says of the EDC:E, “I see CFW as an off- Broadway debut, where designers can gain experience and produce a great show before debuting their collections in bigger markets.”
CFW requires a complete online application by October 10 to be eligible to compete for the grand prize valued at over $30K. Swimsuits For All, a pioneer in inclusive swimwear, proudly introduces its inaugural SwimStar All Stars campaign in partnership with renowned plus-size model and Swimsuits For All ambassador, Denise Bidot. This collaboration marks a significant milestone, nearly a decade following Denise’s groundbreaking “Beach Body, Not Sorry” campaign with Swimsuits For All in 2015, which showcased unretouched imagery aimed at promoting unapologetic confidence.
Denise Bidot and Swimsuits For All have jointly unveiled the SwimStar All Stars nationwide search, dedicated to discovering emerging talent in the realm of swimsuit modeling. Encouraging aspiring models to share their personal narratives, the initiative aims to inspire women of all backgrounds, shapes, and sizes. Following a rigorous selection process, Brittany Wilborn, Camryn Henry, and Sharon Clawson emerged as the chosen winners. In January 2024, these models embarked on a transformative journey to Harbour Island, where they had the unparalleled opportunity to shoot alongside Denise under the expert direction of internationally acclaimed photographer and director, Ben Watts.
Reflecting on the initiative, Denise Bidot remarked, “This was a truly exceptional opportunity to celebrate the diversity of plus-size models and cultivate an atmosphere of support, empowerment, and knowledge sharing.
