You Won’t Believe Which Plus Retailer Now Offers Size 4X!
With plus size fashion evolving, it is always wonderful when a brand expands its sizes…
It seems Charlotte Russe has been keeping a secret from us and we are a bit perplexed as to why they would.
We noticed that the retailer now offers a size 4X in its plus size clothing offerings and there has been no fanfare or press release to announce it.
We’re not sure when the 4X’s appeared on their site but as of today, they currently have a whopping 157 items available in that size. When we looked a few days ago, there were 142 items so the retailer is definitely adding items on a regular basis.
At a time when 67% of American women are considered plus size since the average size has increased to a 16, this is right on time. More accessible fashion in more sizes is a cause for a celebration!

When Charlotte Russe first announced the launch of their plus size category, the clothing was available in up to size 3X. With 4X’s now in the fashion mix, this makes their clothing accessible to more plus size women who may have felt excluded by their size not being available.

We spoke to Alysse Dalessandro, writer and owner/designer of indie brand Ready to Stare to find out her thoughts on this new development at Charlotte Russe.
Dalessandro is a regular shopper and fan of the retailer and when we reached out to her, she was surprised to learn about the addition of 4X’s at Charlotte Russe:
“I think it’s super interesting to see a fast fashion retailer invest in extended plus sizes. I think it just further proves that there’s money to be made here and we do have buying power.”
She adds:
“I believe that plus size fashion should be accessible to all sizes AND all budgets. As fast fashion has extended into plus sizes, extended plus sizes have often been left out, leaving women sizes 22+ with little to no cost accessible items in their size. To see a fast fashion retailer such as Charlotte Russe, which does carry a lot of plus sizes in their physical stores, start to offer 4X is a big deal. To me, this shows that at the very least, they are acknowledging a customer which often gets ignored.”
We agree with Dalessandro 100%. While we are so happy to see 4X’s at Charlotte Russe, we also know that sizing is inconsistent across the board. Therefore, we decided to take a look at their size chart to see how large their size 4X is, when translated into measurements:

As you can see above, the measurements for 4X are 53″-55.5″ for bust, 47″-49″ for waist and 55.5″-57.5″ for hip. Let’s compare those measurements to a size 4X at other retailers.
According to their size chart, Lovesick combines sizes 24 and 26 in their conversion of a 4X. When comparing their 4 to Charlotte Russe’s 4X, it seems that Lovesick’s 24 (3) is actually more equal to Charlotte Russe’s 4X:
Bust: 52″-58″
Waist: 46″-52″
Hip: 56″-64″
According to their size chart, Old Navy combines sizes 28 and 30 in their conversion of a 4X. When comparing their 4X to Charlotte Russe’s, it seems that Old Navy’s 24 (3X) is comparable to Charlotte Russe’s 4X:
Waist: 51″-53.5″
Hip: 61.5″-64″
Torrid (sister company of Lovesick) considers size 26 their version of a 4X, according to their size chart. When comparing their 4 to Charlotte Russe’s, it seems that Torrid’s 24 (3) is comparable to Charlotte Russe’s 4X:
Bust: 56″-58″
Waist: 50″-52″
Hip: 60″-64″
It seems that Charlotte Russe’s 4X is more like a 3X in other brands that may not adopt the junior plus way of sizing their clothing. However, knowing your measurements and fabrics will go a long way in helping you shop more versus just shopping by size.

Regardless of the cons, Charlotte Russe is making a major move in adding 4X to their plus sizing and changing the fast fashion world in the process.
Will this development push other fast fashion brands such as Wet Seal, Forever 21, and debshops to offer above a size 3X? We sure hope so!
