This New Plus Size Brand Wants to Empower Women To Feel (& Look!) Their Best at Any Size

Published

on

Sometimes we just want to be comfy chic and Ori wants to deliver that and more.

Trendy, stylish pieces are great but cozy and casual is where it’s at, especially for those every day outings where we just want to be comfortable, look great and be effortless.

New plus size indie brand Ori aims to shake up the fashion industry with offering contemporary (and comfy!) effortless pieces that women will want to pull from their closets without a second thought.

To this female owned and operated startup based out of Venice, CA, casual doesn’t mean boring.

Their goal was to develop a contemporary collection, that combined amazing fabrics and technical design graded specifically for plus size bodies.

“We live in our clothes! What you wear — it matters. Day in and day out, what we wear shapes our day.

And when we choose to wear something, it’s often because of the way it makes us feel.

The best garments are the ones you reach for first. They’re comfortable, they fit well, and they inspire confidence.

Fashion, and society at large, has been pushing women to be smaller since … forever. Small has always been the ideal. Take up less space. Say a little bit less. Pls blend into a passive, agreeable, supporting role.

^ Nah. We’d rather say what we think, be seen, and be heard. And we’re going to look incredibly put together while we’re doing it. In whatever size we happen to be rn.

We couldn’t find those comfortable, contemporary garments in an inclusive size range that make us look and feel brighter from the inside out —

— so we decided to make them.”

Before the team at Ori started creating their pieces, they felt it was important to talk to plus size women and ask what they wanted so they conducted a survey:

What do you like and dislike about what you’re wearing now?

What styles, fabrics, aesthetics are missing?

What do you wish you could wear more?

After receiving a whopping 8,000+ submissions and then having a follow up in-person fitting at their office, Ori was officially born.

Their first collection aptly titled “The Everyday Collection” features 4 key styles in a woman’s wardrobe that can be mixed and matched in many ways.

Their version of the Perfect Tee is offered in a short sleeve style and a 3/4 sleeve one, made from a super soft tri-blend fabric (cotton/poly/rayon) and double-dyed for richer color with heathered texture.

They’ve also paid attention to the details with including forward-angle side seams, sleeve length just past elbow, a subtle scoop neckline, micro-crop front hemline and curved back hemline for a curve-friendly fit and drape.

The embroidered sweatshirt is described as a “pullover French Terry sweatshirt with hand-designed embroidery detail in a contemporary fit” and it looks like such a fun style to pair with jeans and sneakers for a day out, running around doing errands and then meeting friends for an early dinner.

Lastly, the French Terry Wrap Dress is our favorite of the bunch. Who doesn’t love a comfy dress that is modern and can be styled in so many ways? And the wrap tie is detachable!

Chic it up with some booties and a neck scarf to wear to work or dress it down with sneakers or sandals to spend the day out with the kids or with your friends. Opt to switch out the wrap tie with a faux leather Obi belt or a scarf tied at the waist.

We love that Ori included princess seams for shape and a high-low hemline to hit the knee in the front and provide extra coverage in the back.

When designing for plus size women, many designers and brands don’t incorporate these little details that help plus size women immensely with fit.

So kudos to Ori for taking that into consideration and truly designing for plus size bodies.

Best part of it all? Their sizes run from size 0 (equivalent to a 10/12) to size 5 (equivalent to a 30/32).

The brand is currently on Indiegogo to get funding to grow and expand on their assortment, while offering investors early bird pricing on current styles.

What’s next? A signature trouser, their “Year Round” Jacket, 3/4 sleeve panel tee and a signature short.

This is just the beginning of their inclusive-sizing effort. They state on their Indiegogo page:

“We have a few more core styles that are in the sketch design phase. We’re particularly excited about working on a functional, comfy, flat-front waistband across a few different core bottoms styles, and on incorporating strategic paneling into tops and outerwear.”

Their Indiegogo campaign ends tonight so check it out here. They’ve already met their $10K goal so we’re excited to see what launches next.

SwimStar All Stars Partnership With Renowned Plus-size Model and Swimsuits For All Ambassador, Denise Bidot

Inclusive Swimwear Brand Collaborates with Prominent Plus-Size Model Denise Bidot to Empower Aspiring Models

Swimsuits For All, a pioneer in inclusive swimwear, proudly introduces its inaugural SwimStar All Stars campaign in partnership with renowned plus-size model and Swimsuits For All ambassador, Denise Bidot. This collaboration marks a significant milestone, nearly a decade following Denise’s groundbreaking “Beach Body, Not Sorry” campaign with Swimsuits For All in 2015, which showcased unretouched imagery aimed at promoting unapologetic confidence.

Denise Bidot and Swimsuits For All have jointly unveiled the SwimStar All Stars nationwide search, dedicated to discovering emerging talent in the realm of swimsuit modeling. Encouraging aspiring models to share their personal narratives, the initiative aims to inspire women of all backgrounds, shapes, and sizes. Following a rigorous selection process, Brittany Wilborn, Camryn Henry, and Sharon Clawson emerged as the chosen winners. In January 2024, these models embarked on a transformative journey to Harbour Island, where they had the unparalleled opportunity to shoot alongside Denise under the expert direction of internationally acclaimed photographer and director, Ben Watts.

Reflecting on the initiative, Denise Bidot remarked, “This was a truly exceptional opportunity to celebrate the diversity of plus-size models and cultivate an atmosphere of support, empowerment, and knowledge sharing. The camaraderie on set was palpable, and I am deeply honored to impart the wisdom and insights I’ve garnered throughout my career. Opportunities like these are scarce for plus-size models in the industry, and it has been a privilege to collaborate with the exceptional team at Swimsuits for All to bring this campaign to fruition.”

The models showcased the latest swimwear offerings from the Swimsuits for All 2024 collection, featuring innovative designs tailored to meet the diverse needs of women, including:

Feel-good Fits: Addressing common concerns such as tummy bulges and fit issues, Swimsuits for All offers a range of fits designed to instill confidence and comfort in every body. Incorporating features like Power Mesh for a smooth, flattering silhouette, and adjustable straps for customizable support, the collection caters to various body types.

Bold Prints & Colors for Summer: The summer swimwear collection boasts vibrant colors and captivating prints, injecting excitement and personality into beach and poolside attire. From vivid neon hues to tropical motifs, the collection encourages self-expression and style experimentation.

Liquid Shine: Introducing Liquid Shine, a striking swim fabrication characterized by a glossy, liquid-like finish, adding an edgy allure to beachwear. Available in multiple silhouettes, including bikinis, Liquid Shine ensures you stand out with confidence.

Bikinis that Suit You Best: The Mix & Match Bikini collection offers a personalized approach to swimwear, allowing individuals to mix and match colors and silhouettes for a bespoke look tailored to their preferences.

Beyond showcasing inclusive swimwear designs, the SwimStar All Stars campaign embodies a celebration of women uplifting one another in an industry often marked by competitiveness. Throughout the week-long shoot, models engaged in one-on-one sessions with Denise, fostering meaningful dialogue about the evolving representation of plus-size bodies in swim and fashion.

Jordan Hauser, Senior Director of E-Commerce & Marketing, expressed, “This campaign transcends conventional notions of body positivity and representation in the swim and fashion industries. It is a testament to the power of storytelling and authenticity in reflecting the diverse experiences of our customer base. We are committed to fostering a movement where women find strength in unity, and we are thrilled to embark on this journey alongside Denise Bidot, one of the industry’s foremost advocates for inclusivity.”

The summer 2024 swimwear collection is now available. For further details about Swimsuits For All and the SwimStar All Stars campaign, please visit www.swimsuitsforall.com.
