PMM Inspiration: 4 Reasons I Started the Year with a Vision Board

New Year, New Goals! And a vision board can help you set those goals and stay on track.

“Deciding to set goals is probably one of the most important decisions you can make, but most people don’t set clear goals in their life.” – Thibaut Meurisse

Did you start the new year with a vision board? Some people aren’t a fan of this goal setting activity. And that’s okay. Different strokes for different folks.

Here are my top four reasons why I begin every year with a vision board:

#1: Clarity

Clarity is everything. If you don’t have a clear purpose or understanding of what you’re doing or why you’re doing it, will you ever be pleased with the outcome? Probably not.

Beginning the year with resolutions is neither helpful nor enjoyable. Starting the year off with New Year’s resolutions that you keep is possible. Moreover, beginning the year by creating a vision board that details what you intend to accomplish and focus on, gives you a narrowly focused approach for your life and sets the tone of the year.

#2: Connection with the Universe

Have you ever read The Universe Has Your Back by Gabrielle Bernstein? If not, I recommend that you pick this book up ASAP. Plus, you should totally join the Dressing Room 8 Book Club.

Ultimately, whether you believe the universe has your back or not, I am here to tell you that Gabrielle Bernstein is 100% correct. What better way to connect with the Universe than clearly laying out your intentions in a vision board?

#3: Visual Reminder of Endless Possibilities

Someone once said, “Opportunity is everywhere. The key is to develop the vision to see it.”

So many people need an ongoing reminder that they are surrounded by opportunity. Not to mention the innate ability, we all must create opportunities ourselves. A vision board is the perfect solution to providing you the visual reminder that your goals are truly achievable.

#4: Daily Accountability

Do you struggle with holding yourself accountable?

Without a coach or mentor, it can be extremely difficult to stay focused on achieving the goals you set for yourself. I have my vision board in my kitchen so BEFORE I can open my fridge, I can review the goals that I want to achieve this year.

If you would benefit from a visual reminder of your goals, I recommend that you put your vision board in a place that you must look at each day. This will be the daily reminder you need to stay focused and determined to keep moving towards your goals.

Tips for Making an Effective Vision Board

  • Decide if you prefer a physical or digital board to use.
  • Position the board (in-person or digitally) in a position that you will use and review every day.
  • Don’t clutter your board – use specific images and words that speak to the goals you want to achieve.
  • Remember, there is no “right” or “wrong” way to make a vision board.
  • You don’t need to share your board with others – this is your personal goal setting activity.
  • Enjoy the process of putting the board together.
  • Commit to yourself that your board is a visual display of what you will accomplish in your life.
