Evans Makes a Statement During London Fashion Week With Its SS’15 Catwalk Show

We reported last week that British plus size fashion retailer Evans would be debuting their new SS’15 Design Collective collection at their catwalk show during London Fashion Week. The Design Collective for Evans collection is another innovative collaboration from Evans where the retailer partnered with six high end fashion designers, who reworked designs from their own collections into plus sizes.

The catwalk show took place on Tuesday, September 16 and was an amazing show that has created buzz and excitement for what’s to come in the plus size fashion world. Sir Philip Green, CEO of the Arcadia Group, which owns Evans as well as Topshop, Dorothy Perkins and others, hosted this first major catwalk show for Evans. He told WWD after the show:

“This is a big and important part of the market, and we need to be seen to embrace it. You cannot ignore the market place. And you can’t be defensive about it, or apologize about [plus-size fashion]. Why should the category be any different from petite?”

Green even hinted that catwalk shows for Evans may become a regular thing – he told WWD:

“This is Day One. It’s a good start — and it’s the product that has to do the talking. The question is ‘How do you make an impact?’ I’m pleased we could do this show, and I’ll be very interested to see who tries to follow us.”

This afternoon, Sir Philip Green hosted the inaugural Design Collective for Evans SS’15 catwalk show, an exciting initiative that will bring high end design to the great British High Street.

With the focus on the capital for London Fashion Week SS’15, Evans showcased full outfits from the main collections of Clements Ribeiro, Giles Deacon, Hema Kaul, Jamie Wei Huang, Lulu Liu and Vita Gottlieb. All of their designs have been reworked using our specific knowledge and shape specialism to create a collaborative “Design Collective”.

Guests included:

Sir Philip Green, Alison Hammond, Brix Smith Start, Charlotte De Carle, Darren Kennedy, Fern McCann, Kimberly Garner, Henry Conway, Leanne Jones, Lisa Reilly, Mark Hayes and Tamzin Outhwaite.

Evans Brand Director Fiona Ross said:

“The Design Collective for Evans is another opportunity to put fashion and design at the forefront of the British high street. We are delighted to work with such amazing design talent and to push the boundaries by being the first to showcase a plus size brand in this way. Our collaborations over the years have always been varied and unexpected – from the intricate detail of Alex Monroe’s jewellery collection, the unabashed styling of Beth Ditto, or the colourful CUT for EVANS student design collections – Evans have consistently proven there is an appetite for fashion at any size.”

As the shape specialists on the British High Street, Evans has always strived to change attitudes about the plus market, whilst offering curve conscious pieces that fit and flatter. The Design Collective for Evans is the next step in our journey and one that we see as the shape of things to come.
