This New NYC Boutique Wants to Offer Plus Size Women Cool Downtown Clothes
“Cool downtown clothes for fat chicks, sizes 1X to 4X” – that’s a tagline that has our attention.
When we heard that a new store called Plus Bklyn was opening in NYC, we were so happy to hear this great news!
While NYC has many plus size brick and mortar stores to shop, there is definitely a lack of small boutique stores that offer unique clothing that’s not considered “fast fashion“. And for Plus Bklyn to offer up to a size 4X, this is major news.
The retailer describes itself as “New York City’s premiere plus size boutique and first NYC specialty boutique of its kind“. They state that they “feature bold and trendy downtown styles (and outrageous accessories) for women sizes 14 – 26“.
Owner Alexis Krase is no stranger to the struggles of shopping as a plus size woman. A size 22 herself, she decided to create a space that would offer herself and other women fashion that is cool, youthful and fit well:
“The concept for plus BKLYN was born out of owner Alexis Krase’s first-hand experience. For years she had struggled to find accessible clothing options in her size, a 22, which fit well and were uniquely her style. Of the limited options available to plus sizes, she found that most were online only, the fit was often poor or designed to hide her shape and they primarily targeted a more mature audience. Surprised that no boutique or store was meeting this need in New York City, she resolved to open her own.”
Plus Bklyn also has an online store for those women not able to visit the physical location. However, the brick and mortar store does carry more of an assortment than its online space and from the looks of it, seems like an experience that must be had.
The new boutique is located in the Greenpoint area of Brooklyn at 455 Graham Avenue and is open seven days a week from 12pm to 8pm.
They’re also having a grand opening event on Saturday, May 20 from 7pm to 10pm. There will be a DJ, snacks, tarot readings, and great deals on items. So if you’re in the NYC area, come out and support this new business.
