Where purpose meets panties…
Sofia Vergara aims to not just change the clothing subscription business but the underwear industry as well.
The actress has just launched her own apparel business called EBY, which all about empowering women and not leaving them out of the fashion game.
EBY, which stands for Empowered by You, is a subscription-based brand of underwear and women basics. And plus size women were not left out in EBY… sizes range from XS to 4X! Yes, 4X!!!!
According to W Magazine, the actress isn’t just in this for the money.
She wants to empower women through the company by donating 10% of net sales from EBY’s subscribers to the Seven Bar Foundation, who assists underprivileged women “by giving them the opportunity to become business owners and entrepreneurs through micro-financing“.
They offer loans to women all over the world wanting to start a business. According to W Magazine, “their loans range from $80 to help a woman start a fish stand in India, to $2,600 in the United States for an Etsy startup“.
Vergara told the magazine:
“I have had the luxury of being able to grow my ideas into successful business ventures over the past 10 years. I want to be able to pass that on to other women in need,” Vergara said in a statement. “I want to be able to provide women with the tools to start their own business as an exit out of poverty. EBY does that with its micro-financing model. There’s nothing sexier than being your own boss.”
“So, I thought it was amazing because we were going to have a business and we’re going to help women with their businesses – it was perfect, I couldn’t say no. We’re hoping that it’s very easy to join and it’s a lot of fun too. You get this box every month or two month, whatever you decide, of several underwear or how many you want and it’s like a little gift for yourself. And you’re essentially giving a gift because we’re give ten percent of the net profit to the Seven Bar Foundation. It’s nice to be able to give back.”
Vergara also told W that EBY will unveil a different print monthly and the proceeds for the month will go to women in a specific country chosen for that month. This month, that country is Colombia. This month’s print features the beautiful Colombian flower orchid, as an ode to that country.
“I think the more we sell the more we’re going to be able to help. We hope that we can really make this microfinance thing work and help women everywhere. It’s a sustainable way for a business to help other businesses. It’s the perfect combination.”
When asked how she came up with the different styles and sizes:
“There are five styles total to the collection, including a thong, brief, g-string, bikini and boyshort, and we have all the sizes from Xs to 4x. We wanted to include everyone. They’re all equally super comfortable and practical.”
On Instagram, Vergara describes EBY as amazing, comfortable seamless underwear with patented technology that keeps the underwear in place and prevents sliding. Sizes XS to 4X, every pair is the same price.
We think this is genius. Underwear is an item we all buy and comfort is key. Add to that, the donation aspect and the popular subscription box way of purchasing… we think EBY has the potential to go a long way. Panties for a purpose, indeed.
