Word on the Street: Walmart to Add New Plus Size Brand While Phasing Out Some Others

Walmart is about to make some money moves.

Not to be overshadowed by Target’s new Universal Thread line, the mega retailer has announced it will be launching a few new lines this year, including one for plus size women. We’re here for more plus size fashion so let’s get it!

A source told CNBC that Walmart plans to roll out the new low-priced brands and phase out some old ones in an effort to offer fresh, updated options to customers. With Target and Amazon working hard to expand and offer more of an assortment to customers including exclusive house brands, this is no surprise to us.

Walmart announced late last year that it was redesigning its website with a focus on home goods and fashion, with the inclusion of merchandise from Lord & Taylor this Spring. Yes, Lord & Taylor! Walmart is truly upping its game to keep up with the competition.

The new plus size brand at Walmart is called Terra & Sky and currently, we spy 7 items already online for sale. Prices range from $5.96 for a tee to $18.84 for a shirtdress in sizes 0X to 3X.

Brands that Walmart reportedly will be dropping are Faded Glory, White Stag and Just My Size.

We have to admit we’re a little disappointed as the brands being dropped offer above a size 3X and the new brand does not. But again, this is a game of wait and see. Hopefully, Walmart will offer more sizes as the brand continues to launch more items.
