The pageant, formerly known as Miss Plus Caribbean Universe, has now become a worldwide event, to educate, motivate and promote self-confidence. It aims to show that pageantry is not about size. It is about beauty from the inside and out, which knows no size.
The competition is comprised of select categories such as swimwear, evening wear, Q&A and talent. The winner will receive $3,000, a one-year cosmetology scholarship, a model contract, a trip to a Caribbean island of her choice and other prizes.
Founded by Pearl Williams in 2012, the pageant has gained popularity with Ms. Williams stating that “the product should not be underestimated as it is a brand that is growing quickly”. However, she admits that despite its growing exposure, the pageant still has inadequate sponsorship. Despite this, the show must go on as she told The Trinidad Express:
“We have a lot of support for this pageant from various countries. We have various countries who have expressed their interest in the pageant. Last year, the show was sponsored by the Trinidad and Tobago government. We have made a request to the Ministry of Arts and Multiculturalism for sponsorship since earlier this year, which has not come through as yet. This year we had officially over 100 countries participating that we could not accommodate. We have had over six million viewers on the night on the final show last year. We have a very good production team. The show was well executed. Holland has requested to host the show. Where this pageant is concerned we are talking about the multi-marketing of Trinidad and Tobago. I am saying to sponsors not to underestimate the pageant. It’s a brand that is growing very quickly. The show will stream live all over the world.”
