“Fat Girl Dancing” Star Whitney Way Thore Gets Her Own Reality Show on TLC
Dancer Whitney Way Thore, whose “Fat Girl Dancing” YouTube video went viral earlier this year, is now getting her own reality TV show on TLC, premiering in January 2015.
The show, titled “My Big Fat Fabulous Life“, is a nine-episode series that will follow Whitney as she navigates life as a plus size person defying the stereotypes that society has about overweight people.
Whitney Way Thore has become an advocate for loving yourself and also speaks out against body shaming. Besides using her YouTube video channel as a platform to further her positive message, the 30-yr old dancer also founded the No Body Shame campaign to help promote positive body image in others.
As seen in the sneak peek clip on TLC’s website, Whitney speaks frankly about her journey of once weighing 114 pounds, being diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) in college, which caused her to gain weight rapidly, and how she is re-discovering her love for dancing at her larger size. She is shown jogging, working out and dancing in the clip, living a very active life at 380 pounds.
We’re loving this new approach that TLC is taking with this show, where it’s not about losing weight to achieve happiness but instead about self-acceptance, being happy NOW and showing that we are all works in progress along the way. You can’t help but feel inspired as you watch Whitney live life to its fullest.
Whitney said it best at the end of the sneak peek clip when she said:
“I may be fat, but I am still fabulous. I have one life to live, and it damn sure better count.”
Amen to that! My Big Fat Fabulous Life premieres at 10pm ET / 9pm CT on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 on TLC.
