Actress Kate Hudson’s Activewear Brand Has Added Plus Sizes
Nike, Kate Hudson is coming for you.
The actress’ activewear company Fabletics just announced its size expansion up to size 3X, giving Nike some major competition.
The new size expansion is being promoted with a “Fit For You” campaign, to which the brand says on their blog:
“We’re happy to announce that we now offer sizes XXS-3X, furthering our mission to make a healthy, active lifestyle available to everybody! From the very beginning, Fabletics was designed with every woman in mind, because we all—regardless of size, shape, age or ability—deserve to feel fit, look incredible, be inspired and have fun!”
According to Hudson’s interview with Refinery29, the plus size expansion took about a year to launch with all the styles priced at under $70.
We spy some familiar faces in the campaign images such as plus models Barbie Ferreira and Marquita Pring. It’s nice to see models of different shapes and sizes featured in the campaign.
“When I started Fabletics, my goal was (and still is) to empower women and design with every woman in mind, because everyone – regardless of size, shape, age or ability – deserves to look incredible, be inspired and feel their absolute best. We don’t see this as the introduction of a separate line but an extension of our brand that now allows us to embrace all the amazing women who are, or want to become, part of our community. Our mission is to support all women on their journey to live a healthy, active lifestyle.”
The official press release also states the new collection will reflect the brand’s signature aesthetic while maintaining the construction, functionality and quality it is known for:
“Product enhancements for peak performance and fit include wider bands with adjustable straps and closures on bra tops for added support and comfort, longer length options for coverage, power mesh fabrications for breathability and adjustable side shirring on key tops.”
“It makes sense, doesn’t it — our whole brand is about inclusivity and wanting everyone to be involved in it. It was a natural progression. But it’s something you need to focus on to do right.”
While we applaud Hudson and Fabletics for extending its sizing to 3X, we have to pause when we hear the words “all”, “inclusivity” and “every woman” being thrown around when speaking of this new development. Size 3X does not include ALL plus size women and that’s even more apparent with some activewear brands out there offering up to a size 6X.
Hudson must have known we would mention this as she told Refinery29 that she is open to expanding the size range beyond 3X. The company is looking at demand and how this expansion will do – that includes the plus sizes they just launched:
“With something like extended sizing, you put quite an investment into that, and you hope not only that the girls love it, but that it’s good enough to become something that keeps girls coming back. That’s our goal.”
Like we have said previously, let your voice be heard. Use social media as a way to tell Fabletics that you want them to expand even more on sizing and let them know that it is a great thing that they have started this size expansion. Email them, call them, etc.
